The Patching Project

Patching should start during a time when a parent can spend some quality time with their child.  The weekend is usually the best time to begin patching.  Almost always, the first few hours or days of patching will be the most difficult because your child is adjusting to using one eye with poor vision and dealing with the emotional disorientation of patching.  Activities like video games, computer games, and watching television offer visual stimulation that can be enjoyable for your child.  Activities that use fine motor skills (coloring, cutting, pasting) are also wonderful ways to encourage the use of the weaker eye.  At first the eye-hand coordination may be poor but they will improve with practice, this will also build their confidence.  Reading books, working on mazes or puzzles can also be fun activities that the whole family will enjoy.  Spending time together, encouraging and praising your child is the key to successful patching.  Motivating your child to patch can be a constant challenge.  What may have motivated your child to patch yesterday may not work today.  Patch Pals has created some new products that will encourage your child to use their imagination while patching.  Pretending to be a pirate, a princess, or a super hero can help to develop a positive attitude towards their patching time.  Being creative is the key.

Classroom Ideas

When I taught 1st grade a few years back we did an activity with the kids to help illustrate what one of our patching student was experiencing.  I purchased a few boxes of the sticky patches.  We had the kids spend some time decorating the patches with markers and crayons.  We had a discussion about muscles and how important it is to exercise those muscles every day so they don't get "lazy".  We spent a few minutes exercising our arm, leg, and face muscles.  We then talked about how our eyes have muscles and sometimes one eye can be weak (or lazy) and one way to fix it is by exercising it.  I explained that by covering the good eye we force the weak eye to workout harder.  We then took the eye patches that we had decorated and each child wore the patch.  We walked outside for a few minutes, we worked on a tracing page, and then we looked at books.  A total of 15 minutes of patching.  We then got into a group and discussed how we felt.  Most of the kids struggled with the activities.  This gave them great empathy for the patching student and they realized how hard it was to patch.  They never teased him because they knew what it felt like to have the patch on.  In fact, many of the students offered him encouragement and praise when he patched.  When it comes to friends, they really will accept the patching as long as they understand what it is for.  It's just like someone coming to class with a cast on their arm.  No one is going to ridicule someone for breaking their arm, there is nothing funny about it.  If the students understand patching, the chances of teasing should lessen.  Of course an older student may tease one day, but the patcher's friend may just stand up and set them straight.

Leah is now 6 1/2 years old.  She was diagnosed with amblyopia about two years ago. I stumbled across Patch Pals when I was educating myself about the condition.  Leah and I sat in front of the computer together and she picked put her first patch - a white kitty.  We were so excited about Patch Pals that we brought one to her eye doctor's office.  Now she refers her patients to your website.  You have a great product and wonderful service.  Thank you, Patch Pals!

We really do love Patch Pals, I cant wait to put together her Patch Pals Easter Basket, with the new items, and patches we ordered, I really think she is enjoying it now, and its nice to see her so happy, and having fun with them, at The Gun and Knife Show, she got so much attention, and so many people came up with story's from either their days of patching, or one of their children, or a friends days of patching, and they were all horror story's, no one once said yeah that was a good time, and everyone said I wish they had them when I was a kid, or I wish they had those when my child had needed them, I even gave your website to a grandmother who said she has custody of her grandson, and he is 4, and he refuses to wear the old sticky thing, I asked her, have you ever put one on? She said well no, I don't need one, I said well try one on for just 5 mins, try to smile, and talk, or eat, and you will feel it tugging, and then when you take it off feels like your skin is coming with it, and then the red mark will last a while, then go to this webiste, order him some boys patches, let him choose, so you know he will wear them, and then you will see a whole new side to patching. I even shared my idea for a Patch Pals Easter Basket, complete with a Patch Pals Buddy! I hope one day Olivia wont need to patch anymore, but until then, I'm sure grateful Patch Pals has my back! I love all the positive feed back from everyone while we are out and patching, before she wouldn't leave the house with them old patches, now she get her coat, and boots on before we do, and she is proud to patch outside the home. Thanks Again Patch Pals!

I wanted to Thank You--For Creating Your Patches.  When the doctor's misdiagnosed my son several times, I realized that the glasses they gave him messed up his eye even more.  1 year after the date of glasses I have been patching my son eye with your patches.  I actually pop out the lenses of his glasses and added the patch which he still uses, I have to get more.  His eye is improving his new eye doctor is shocked that the patch actually works.  He told me the only reason the doctor's gave my son glasses when he did not need it was because they wanted to strengthen out his eye but instead did further damage.
Thank You,
A Very Grateful Parent
Oh where do I start?  You guys are something else!!  I'm so happy to see this Patch Pals club.  What a great synthesis of excellent tools our patients can use.  I know gathering these places took a lot of time and effort and I wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.  This will give patients so much more direction while they are working on improving their eyesight.
Thank you so much!

Thank you for the quick response!  I registered and LOVE the Patch Pals Club options!  Thank you for making your website even better.  My daughter is seen at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center and I have passed along to your website to our ophthalmologist as I think your patches/website are fantastic.

Thanks again!

Received the patches. They are awesome and my boy just loves them. Thanks a lot. Really appreciate that.
Merry Christmas !

I can't tell you how happy I am with your product. My three-year old (also named Mackenzie!) has to patch for four hours each day. We tried several brands of the adhesive kind. Her skin kept tearing no matter what we did to take them off. We even tried saturating the patch with baby oil or vegetable oil just to get it off with out pulling her skin! We ended up not patching her anymore because I refuse to hurt my child day in and day out. We went back for a follow up and our eye doctor gave us a sample of your product. Mackenzie wore it for four hours with no tears! What a relief! We just purchased more, because she loves to dress up differently each day!
I was feeling very sad about my son, Ty, having to patch, but when he was so excited to put them on it made me feel better.  I was also very surprised at how fast they got here.  I ordered Friday afternoon and received them Monday in the mail.  I also love the material you use.  Ty was having trouble looking over the top of the glasses  with the patch on.  We tried getting them adjusted but because he has plastic style w/o nose pieces it was no use.  So I cut away some of the material and that did the trick.  If it would no have been felt I would not have been possible.  You should now advertise that the size can be adjusted with a few snips.

Thanks
Tammi Duckert
The patch is perfect and he gets excited to wear it each day. He loves rotating between his monkey and pirate patch.

Thank you so much for your wonderful product! I wanted to cry when I found out my daughter would need to patch but watching her excitement as she unwrapped her patches and picked out which one to wear made all the difference in the world!  When she starts to get frustrated we look for new patches and the excitement starts again. Thank you again for making patching positive for my daughter!

-Jennifer Miller

Dear Patch Pals,

Thanks you so much for the fast delivery of the patch I recently purchased for my 5 year old son. I can now certainly understand how frustrating it is to keep compliance when attempting to use patching therapy for young children. Until I found your product online, I was using adhesives to cover his eye and dealing with the harsh skin irritations that those products produce. Your product is comfortable for him and easy for us( parents) to deal with.

I ordered this product 3 days ago on a sunday and was very happy to see it in my mailbox wednesday morning. I wanted to thank you for providing such a useful product and shipping it in such an efficient manner. You guys are great! I plan to show his optomologist your product at his next recheck and suggest they offer them as a suggestion for future parents.

Have a great day,

Dawn Graham
I was SO glad to discover you! My daughter's time wearing a patch has gone from tears of frustration (from both of us) to happy Patch shopping and even bragging to her friends how she wears a patch and they don't.  I LOVE IT!

Hi,
I just wanted to send you a note thanking you for the quick shipment of Matthew's patch.  It arrived in 3 days, and the timing could
not have been better. Matthew, six, found out two weeks ago that he was going to get glasses and have to wear a patch.  Last weekend we went to pick up his glasses it hit him.  It was real, he really had to wear the patch.  Fortunately for him,  it was only on weekends and after school, but that still was very hard for him to accept.
Last night I picked up Matthew and his sister from daycare - he had a big red ring around his eye.  I knew about this in advance since the
school nurse called me.  He got hit in the glasses while playing ball on the playground.  He was fine, but his pride was hurt since he had to go
to the nurses office.   On the ride home, his older sister (ten) was not being very nice to Matt.  She kept saying - what's the big deal,  I
could wear the patch without any problems.   This just tour Matthew apart. He started with the "it's not fair",  "why me", "you don't
understand". He was right, his sister did not understand.  I tried to explain to her that there is a difference if she wore a patch. For her,
it was a choice, and choosing to wear a patch would be like a game or fun thing because she knew she could take it off at any time. For
Matthew,  the choice was made for him, and he was right, that was not fair.  By this time we were in the driveway and Matthew was on the floor of the car in tears.  I let his sister into the house and then asked Matthew if he wanted to get the mail with me.  When we opened the mailbox and saw the package, I asked Matthew if he wanted to open it,  even thought it was addressed to me.  I told him there may be something in there that he would like.  Being six,  it only took seconds for him to rip open the package and pull out the invoice.  "What do I want with this?  I can't read it."   Look in the package again I told him.  When he pull out the patch he could not wait to try it.  "No Sticky Stuff",  no Sticky Stuff,  just
slip it over your glasses and when you need a little break, just remove your glasses for a few. We then went into the house and he wanted to start his homework with his new patch.   We made it through all the math and spelling without any problems.  Took off the glasses to get a little break and then back on in no time to watch some TV.  We made it to bed time and the patch remained on most of the night.
It's only been six days for Matthew with his patch,  and I know that he still has a lot of adjusting to do.  But I can see a big improvement in
his acceptance of the new "no sticky stuff" patch. This weekend, I think we will do a little shopping on your website and let Matthew pick out some designs for himself.
Thanks for making the start of our journey much more pleasant.

Duane
Thank You so much for your creation of Patch Pals. My daughter is 3 years old and recently was ordered to wear a patch on her right eye to help strengthen the left. We purchased the purple patch with the three flowers at our eye Doctors office and this has truly helped with getting her to be compliant!

Hi my name is Melissa and my 5 year old son Riley was just diagnosed with a lazy eye this past  year – we started with glasses and have moved to patching about a month ago and it has been a struggle.  I found your website yesterday because I told Riley I would try and find him some “fun” patches and when I got home we got on together and he played some of the games while patching.  I almost cried when he finished his second parrot picture and asked if he could do another one… that was honestly the first time he has ever asked to keep his patch on… so for that I just wanted to say Thank you so much for your website – I am sure it has taken a lot of time and effort but please know that you are helping other parents get through something that is very scary and unknown to them….

Melissa
Good morning,

I am from the UK and I stumbled upon your website whilst looking for a patch for myself.

I read Mackenzies story and I must say It was heartwarming, I understand how she felt.  When I was born I had issues with my eyes, I had 3 operations to try and correct my eyesight.  I had to have glasses and patches all through school and It was horrible, children in the UK aren't particularly kind.  I never let it stop me from being myself, I never let it define me.  I am now 23 and once again my eye has decided to go on a wander, so I am back trying patching to correct it, fingers crossed it won't take as long and hopefully I wont need an operation if the patching works.

I really wished that someone in the UK had had this idea, I would of lost a lot less eyebrow hairs!

Mackenzie is a really pretty girl and I hope that all her dreams come true.

Regards

Suzie
I was just contacting you to let you know how grateful I am for finding this site! The first order I placed with you was in Sept. of 2010. My little girl (who was 7 years old at the time) was having problems with her grades when we realized maybe she was having problems with her eyes. To make a long story short we had her eyes checked and found that her right eye was alot weaker than than the left which meant she would have to get glasses and she would have to patch her good eye to improve the sight of her bad one. We searched high and low to find the perfect patch for her (something she would be proud to wear and that would be a perfect fit for her little face). NOTHING could be found except for those black pirate looking patches that were one size fits all and needless to say they were HUGE! I did not want that ugly "eye sore" of a patch on my baby girl. So I searched the internet and found your site. A God send!!! Your patches are absolutely perfect!!! Great fit and cute! What more could we want? It's been over a year now and she still has to patch and we have ordered several times from you and I have also recommended you to other eye doctors. I was also touched by your story and how you came to make these patches! THANK YOU FOR MAKING PATCHING FUN!!!

Thanks,
Deanna Crumbley
Thank you for the prompt delivery.  We received the patches today. My son wore his patch and it was very comfortable for him, he loved the designs and the wrist band.

Thank-you for the patches.  My son thinks they are cool, and doesn't mind wearing them.  I find them easy to put on and take off.  These are great.  So far his eye is improving well.
Thank-you again.

I just wanted to thank you for your wonderful patches. My daughter had a
cataract removed in September and has been patching all through kindergarten.
She is a good patcher, but somedays it just takes a bit more encouragement. She
always loves it when new patches arrive in the mail, and I just wanted to thank
you for making a sometimes difficult challenge more manageable for my daughter.
Your patches are fun and she tells me that they are "very hard to peek
through"...which makes me very happy. :)

Thanks so much,
Sarah Bogard, Manhattan IL

Just to let you all know that we love your product and my son is enjoying every minute he is using his patch. Thank you for all your dedication and support.
Hi, I am writing to thank you for such a wonderful product! My daughter started wearing a patch a year ago, and we have been told by her doctor she has made remarkable progress.  Since I found your website, I have forwarded your business to my doctor how now refers pt's for your product. The thought of my 5 year old having to wear a patch scared me to death, however your cute designs has made this fun for her. She now wears her patch 8-10 hours a day, and even to school without hesitation!

Recently I had a cousin contact me in regards to her son now needing to wear a patch on his eye.  Once again only 3 years old, and well "PatchPals" has made the transition more fun for the "little ones" mind!!

I applaud your business on such a wonderful way of helping people with "special eyes".

Respectfully~

A FOREVER FAN!!!
Just wanted to say thank you for this product.  My daughter was diagnosed with amblyopia in January of 2009 and had to patch for eight hours each day. She was terrified to wear the medical eye patches so I got online to see if there were any alternatives and found patchpals.com.  We ordered the unicorn patch right away!  As a parent, I was so relieved to find a product that made her experience less frightening. She is now patching for 4 hours each day and is making great progress.  While she does not look forward to patching each day, she can certainly be more comfortable with the patches we order from Patch Pals and we have fun picking out new patches every few months.
Thank you so much for creating and making these patches available.  My son, Drew, has been patching for almost three years, he is almost four years old now.  This past year has been the most difficult with him not wanting to wear the sticky patch.   We just got his train patch in the mail today and he was excited about it.  He put it right on without a hitch, and can't wait to show it to his preschool friends.  What a success!
Can't thank you enough,
Amanda and Drew Miller
Our 4-yr-old had to start patching last June & it was so difficult with those adhesive things!  We then tried one that wrapped around her head, but it just slipped & caught in her hair.  We have ordered 3 patches from you guys & could not be more pleased.  I love how she looks forward to picking out which one to wear!

Thank you,

Carrie Auler
I just wanted to say thank you for coming up with such a wonderful product.  My five year sold son has to wear a patch 2 hours a day every day and it has been such a struggle to get him to wear a patch at all.  I have been fighting with him for almost 6 months now to wear a patch.  I found your website and he got so excited about the patch power that he wanted the patch power patch, the cape and the t-shirt.  Now he wears the patch everyday for 2 hours no problem.  The first couple of times was a struggle, but only because he has a hard time seeing out of the weaker eye.  I love that the patch goes over the glasses.  Its so much more comfortable for my son to wear.  I am going let our eye doctor know about your site and product so that they can let others know as well.

Thank you!
Kim- mommy to Brendan
I am so happy I found your patches for my son. We patch for a minimum of 4 hours everyday and his poor face has a ring around his eye where the adhesive sticks! Thank you for making such a great item!  Very Thankful and I am gonna be ordering very soon!!  Patching may be a little better for him now!

I got my patches today it was very exciting.  I put the patch with the snowflake on first. Tomorrow I will put the patch with the dragonfly on. I love the patches

Hi, A few weeks ago I ordered patches from you- my son is almost 2 1/2 and we have struggled with patching since he was diagnosed with a unilatrtal cataract at 4 months old. After lens replacement surgery a year and a half ago, his opthamologist told us to use Atropine because Jack would not tolerate patching at all. After our last visit,  the doc gave us the option of using Atropine daily or attempting to patch again- we decided we would try patching. We had a few adhesive patches left, and Jack was better with them, but obviously uncomfortable, he cried and rubbed his patched eye. I looked online and found your site- we decided to try your patches and ordered 2 so Jack could decide which he wanted to wear each day.
In the past an hour was all the patching we could get in each day and that was with constant supervision and multiple adhesive patches. The past week we have gotten Jack to wear his patch at least 4 hours a day and yesterday when he woke up from his nap, he looked at me and said, "Mommy, put patch on." I cannot tell you how amazing this is!
I cannot thank you enough for making and selling these patches; it is a huge relief to no longer need to put Atropine in Jack's eye and he really likes the over the glasses patches.
Thank you so very much!

I just wanted to thank u SOOOO much for this product.  My daughter has somewhat of a lazy eye and I can not believe they had me put one of those awful bandaid type patches on her eye!  what a mess!  This has helped her so much!!! What a awkward thing for a 5 year old and ur product just rocks!  love it love it love it love it!!!

-Misty Gardner

Just wanted to say THANKS! Purchased a patch for my daughter and it is PERFECT!! Now she will wear a patch thanks to your patch!

WOW!
All I can say is thank you. I feel that I have tried every patch type available through the pharmacy within a short period of time without success and now I found the answer! Not only does my little guy love the race car on his patch, he's not peeking and your turn around on my order was amazingly fast.
I appreciate your product and service level. Again, thank you.

Heather Kluck

I just love your product!! When our doctor told us to patch, I thought, "okay, not a big deal." That was in September and we're still patching, we've been going back every 6 weeks and Adam (4 years old) will have surgery soon. I didn't realize how long the doctor wanted us to patch. Finally a couple of weeks ago I started searching on the internet, I thought, "there has got to be something better!" I hate that Adam would be patching until he is 10! At least, that's what the doctor is saying for now. I have felt horrible, knowing what it's like for him to wear the sticky patch, I tried it for 20 minutes and hated it! After searching I found your website and I am SO HAPPY! Adam is very happy too, he actually wears it the whole time that he's supposed to!

Thank you so much for going through the same thing and knowing there needs to be something better! I'm a little bummed that our doctor hasn't said anything about this, but you can be sure I will be telling him! When I asked the doctor, "How do I keep the (sticky) patch on him?" His response was to spank, time outs, groundings, etc. I told him I'd tried all those things and that Adam has such a strong personality that he doesn't care. So, the doctors next response was, "arm splints!" I HATED that idea! I thought, "so now we're forcing him to see with ONLY his bad eye and making it so he can't bend his arms? What happens when he falls?" I'm sure it wouldn't be fun.

Thank you so much!

Patch Pals,
I wanted to say Thank you. I recently ordered a Pirate patch and a plain black patch for my 7 year old son.  My son , Sean, was not happy wearing the sticky patches that were like band aids for the eye. They hurt to take off and irritated the skin. I found you site on the internet. We ordered the two and , Sean loves them. I love the different designs. I will definitely pass the word for anyone else for their needs. Keep up the great work.
Sincerely,
Mary Kelly

I just wanted to say thank you for selling a TERRIFIC product! You have made patching SO much easier for my daughter.  I thought for sure we would never get her to wear the patch without her fighting and complaining about wearing it. The adhesive patches would never stay on right and when they did my daughter who is 3 would cry because it would itch and irritate her skin. Your patches are pretty and don't irritate her at all. Thank you so much for making a wonderful product!

Finding your site online has made my day!
I just found out my daughter has Amblyopia and will have to wear an eye patch.
Your site has given me lots of great information and idea's to help with patching.
Payton was able to pick her own patch design and become a patch club member.
She feels very special and is excited about getting her patch in the mail.

From one very happy mom and her little girl THANK-YOU!!!

Thank you so much for these wonderful patches!  My son hated the ones that stick on, but now he has been using yours for the past 6-8 months and he LOVES them.  His friends and teachers think that his pirate patch is really cool!  Thanks so much for making this easier for our family.
Sincerly,
Pilar Meek

I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how much my daughter LOVES her patches.  We recieved them today (super fast shipping).  She could hardly wait to rip open the package when she got home from school today.   Very well made, and seems easy to trim to adjust to her tiny face.  Her favorite, at the moment, is the kitty ( which she has named Lindsey. lol).  She will not take off her new bracelet either.  She was not happy about patching at all, but with her new patches, she has not asked to take it off all evening.   We will have to patch full time for about7-9 months, Thank you for making a hard transition, so much easier.  Very happy kid, very happy Mama !!!

Thank you so much for shipping our items so quickly, even though I had to send the side to you later.  My son is so excited about wearing his patch - for the first time ever!  Right now he's wearing his pirate in training shirt and waiting for me to finish writing you so he can play the games on your website.  I wish I had heard about you earlier.  Like many parents, this whole patching thing was a huge struggle and I eventually gave up.  I hope your business is profitable, you deserve it for providing such a great product and service!  We will be repeat customers.
Many thanks,
Diane Tiede :)
My daughter, Paloma, age 5, naturally hated wearing her eye patches, but her doctor ordered full-time patching for the 6 weeks we had left before school started, in hopes that she would be able to reduce the # of hours by the time school started.  Fortunately, she went from 150/20 to 30/20 in those 6 weeks, and we feel tremendously blessed!  She is now down to 4 hrs/day and so she does not have to wear her patch to school.  She is SO happy about that, as you can imagine!

She wore adhesive patches for about 2 weeks, but the humid weather made it difficult to keep them on.  I researched several online companies selling cloth patches before I chose yours, mostly for the variety of super-cute designs you have and the club and Patch Land!  Both of my girls love playing the games on Patch Land!  And Paloma got really excited about picking out a few designs that she liked.  Truthfully, we had to narrow it down from about 8-10 designs because there were so many she liked.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for creating these pretty patches with such a good understanding of little girls.  You have great designs and we always refer your company to other parents.

We've attached a picture for you to add to your gallery.  The ballerina slippers are her favorite and she wears it to her dance class.  If I get a photo with the little hearts patch, I'll send that, too!

Warm regards,
Micaela Rall
My daughter loves the patch pals and great coverage over the eye they leave no peek holes..thanku kelly marques
Thanks a million!
What a clever product. Our daughter has been really sensitive about wearing an eyepatch, complaining that the sticky kind pull at here eyelashes and brow, and that the band around kind embarrass her. This is just perfect! And what wonderful customer service!
Thanks,
MOM :)

p.s. If she likes this one, we will surely be back for all sorts of designs! :)
Thank-you so very much!  James goes on your website EVERYDAY after school.  He puts on his patch, and likes to play the games.
If it were not for Patch-Pals, I honestly do not know what I would do.... James fought and fought me about wearing his patch - a friend told me about your product and website - THANK GOODNESS!!  Now that James LIKES his patches - he is more willing to wear them - not only at home, but outside of the home.   Someone came up to me yesterday and asked me where I got James' patch - her son has to patch, and currently owns a "clip on" version - she was so excited to see James! -- Her son was actually the first to notice James' and asked his Mom for the same one.

So again - THANK-YOU.  Your website and all the valuable information has truly been a blessing.

Kind Regards,
Heather Powers

I ordered 2 patches for my daughter.  They are fantastic!!!!!  Very well made and she loves the designs.  It makes it fun for her.  I have passed your website to a number of paople.  Thank you!!!!
Thank you so much, and thank you for a wonderful product!!!  I've recommended your site to many parents and will continue to do so.  As a matter of fact, if you can include some business cards in my order, I can hand them out to other parents who stop us while we are out.
Your patches are so cute and make patching less of a chore for us.  :D

I just want to say THANK YOU for making "patching" fun. My daughter who will soon be 8 is being patched for the first time. She is very nervous about what others will think...she is excited about the puppy patch and the plush.
Thank you, thank you for your product.

Hello,
I recently purchased three patches for my three-year old daughter.  She had been struggling with the adhesive patches complaining that they were itchy and they hurt when we had to peel them off.  Your product couldn't have come at a better time.  She has been alternating between the "princess", "fairy" and "purple sparkle" patches since we got your package in the mail.  Thank-you so much for making a product that gives both children (and parents) a little bit of comfort during the long journey towards good vision.
I am a VERY happy customer.
Sincerely,
Rikki Nevins
We love your patches - thanks so much for all the suggestions and hints.  My daughter Francie is 4 yrs. old now and we have been patching since she was 1 1/2.  We were so grateful to discover your webpage when she was about 3 and got rid of the sticky patches.  They have made our lives much easier.
We live in Germany and a lot of people have approached us when Francie is wearing her patch and wanted to know where we got it!!!!  I showed the eye doctor here everything and he was impressed and loved the book also.  He wanted to know when the german version was coming out!!???
Thank you.  I just wanted you to know that I loved your daughter's story and that I am so grateful that you had the creative brain to come up with this idea.  I am a 38 year old mother of two boys that are going to need to start patching.  I, myself, was born with severe amblyopia.  When I was 13 months old I had surgery to correct it and it did not work.  My right eye was corrected and then my left eye turned in.  I, of course, know all about patching and I absolutely hated it!  I bet if I had a cool patch like patch pals I would have enjoyed it some.  My boys are excited about their patches and I couldn't be more thrilled that they are excited about it. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Sincerely,
Tanya Hested
Thank you so much for offering this amazing product. My 3 year old son is Autistic and we knew there was no way we could get that sticky patch on and even if we did, he would rip it off or spend all day trying to. When the Dr. suggested patchpals, I knew this was something he would tolerate. This will truly save his eye, without it, we would be forced to do surgery to cut his nerve. So THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!

Hi Patch Pals!  I just wanted to say THANK YOU!  I ordered patches for my 7-year-old daughter. She had only worn the adhesive patches for 3 days and her skin was already irritated.  She was not happy.  I ordered the patches on Friday and they arrived at my home on Monday!! WOW! Marissa absolutely loves her"fancy patches" I know your patches will make the next few months of patch wearing much more enjoyable for her! Thanks again! Right-click here to download pictures. My daughter Mikayla loves your patches. She picked up the Figaro patch at an AAFES Military Optical Shop when she got her first pair of glasses about 3 weeks ago and it is her favorite patch so I decided to buy her some more along with "The Patch" book. She was so excited when they came today she wanted to "try-on" each of the new patches. She was very shy about wearing the patch to school when she found out she had to wear one and your patches has made that easier for her. Thank you for such a wonderful product and such "cool" designs.

I just wanted to say thank you for your product. It's really helped our little girl Madalyn, age 6.  I remember the first time Maddie had to wear her glasses to school. She was giving us a hard in morning about going and when I finally I got her to talk about it, she broke down, through her arms around me and said, "They're all going to make fun of me". It broke my heart. We talked and she gathered all her courage and went to school. She is a very brave little girl. She only had to wear her patch pal at home this point. This year she started going to school all day, and she would have to wear her patch during school. Although I wasn't able to be there this year, I am currently in Iraq, she has been doing great with wearing her patch. She still had to be brave that first day but having a patch pal definitely made it easier for her to handle and easier for the other kids to accept.  I've attached a picture of Maddie wearing her patch, if it wouldn't be too much trouble, I know she would love to see it on your web-site. Maddie's eye is improving and she loves to read. Thank you again, David

These patches are the best, the only ones my daughter will wear,  and the book is great!

My name is Kennady and I am 4 years old.  Yesterday my opthamologist said I need to patch my left eye to make my right eye stronger.  I don't mind wearing the patch (so far,) but when my mom said I was going to daycare today, I cried.  I told her I was afraid the kids would wonder why I "lost" my eye.  My mom is so thankful that she came across your site today.  Tonight she and I are going to sit down together so I can pick out some of my very own patches.  Coloring the band-aid one with markers just wasn't cutting it.  These are simply adorable and look MUCH for comfortable.  I have even been asking for a "sparkly" one to match my glasses.  Thank you!

My seven year old son Brandon has had to patch from the age of two. When we started patching we used the sticky band-aid type and we had to draw fun things on them for him to be okay with wearing them. Although taking them off would always hurt and leave red marks around his eye not to mention the cost. As he got older it became more of a struggle to get him to wear his patch because of kids teasing and the pain of it all. So to save some fighting we got lazy on having him wear his patch but his sight got slightly worse and so we went to the local pharmacy and got the black over the counter patch with the elastic strap that comes only in one size for adults. More of a struggle, my son complained it made his eye hot and I found him wearing it on his forehead more than on his eye. I decided to look online and found patch pals about a month ago and I ordered one to see if it would work and to see if my son would keep it on. These patch pals are wonderful!!!! He and his friends think they are cool and he is eager to put it on after school. We also do a reward system that is helping too. Thank you for not only making my sons eyesight stronger but also Thank you for making one thing in my life easier.  - Amie, Burton, MI

"I just wanted to tell you that this is the first time my son has ever wanted to wear his patch.  He loves them.  He actually ran down the stairs this morning and picked out the one he wanted to wear and I didn't have to say anything!"

To the creator of patchpals.com ----
As the grandmother of a little girl, now age 3, I have prayed for months for a solution to present itself that will help with her eyesight. Battles over sticky patches and drops have been heart-tugging, to say the least. Just today I have learned that my daughter has ordered patches from your site. They should be such a help in the patching process. It is our prayer that over time this will allow Katelynn the use of both eyes and the blessing of very, very good eyesight.
Your website is fantastic...I cried through the entire reading time! I applaud your creativity and thank you for sharing such needed help with others! May God bless your own endeavors. Thank You!

Very truly,

Christina L Gillespie

My son Tate has not had to patch more than 4 hours per day, but he loved picking out his car patch and has received many compliments on it! Patching has been a huge success in improving his vision and depth perception, and I'm convinced it was a lot easier than it could have been because of this fun patch.

Cathy,
Thanks so much for the patches.  As an "older" patient I have to patch after muscle surgery.  The adhesive patches were uncomfortable, hot and sweaty.  Your patch does the job required and is quite comfortable.  The fact that it was recommended by my opthalmologist reassured me.  I was a little concerned since they were geared toward children, but the plain patches you sent were discreet and the decorated patches were great for my "fun" side.  Thanks again.

(45 year old patch pal!)

Hi. I just thought I would e-mail to let you know that your patches have made all of the difference in the world for our 4 year old, Catherine. She strongly disliked the stick on patches. We tried the drop for awhile because she disliked the stick on patches so much. She did really well letting me put the drop in, but it started to backfire because she was trying to use the good eye with the drop in it instead of using the weak eye. We could tell because the weak eye was turning in. So...I thought how are we going to get her to wear the patch again? She is a pink fanatic, so I thought if I could only find a pink patch she would probably think it would be fun to wear. That is when I went on line and found your web site. She loves her patch pals!! She has gone from 20/200 in her weak eye ( with the glasses on) to 20/40. We have patched for about 10 months now. We always get the most positive comments from people about the patches. The goal is 20/20 with the glasses, but we are in no hurry because she loves the patches so much!! Thank you! This has made my life easier too as a parent, because my child is happy!! I have attached two pictures of Catherine in her puppy patch. She likes it because of the pink nose!! Thanks again. Sincerely, Valerie Mefford Frankfort, KY

Thank you so much for the this wonderful gift you have given my 7 year old daughter. We had just finished our 3 hours with the old adhesive patch and received our order. She gladly put on the dog patch for another hour voluntarily for extra credit! This is going to make our life run more smoothly until our recheck at the end of June. I am definitely passing the website onto our vision therapist. Thank you !!!!! Lisa O'Connor

My daughter had issues accepting the new patches, and she refused to wear them for a whole week after they arrived. But now she absolutely LOVES wearing it. The first thing she does when she wakes up is she asks " Can you put my eye patch on" So, many people have commented on how CUTE it is, and what a great idea. Thank you for creating such a great product. Stephanie C. Boston, MA
